This beautiful card was sent by a postcrosser from Japan. It shows the lovely Bandai Mountains, and across it a white bed of buckwheat flowers. Mt. Bandai is a stratovolcano, in Fukushima prefecture Japan. 'Goshiki-numa', or the 'five colored lakes', is a cluster of five volcanic lakes situated at the foot of Mt. Bandai, and were formed when the volcano errupted in 1888. Buckwheat, or 'soba' constitutes the famous soba noodles. It takes three months for thebuckwheat to be ready for harvest. Soba made from the newly harvested buckwheat are called as 'shin-soba', which is typically sweeter than regular soba.
