Kathakali is a classical Indian dance drama, which originated in Kerela, in around 17th century. It is noted for its elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and the attractive make-up of the characters, and well defined body movements, in tune with singing and precise drumming. Kathakali is a combination of five elements of art: Expression, Dance, Enactment, song/vocal and instrumental accompaniment. Traditionally there are 101 Kathakali stories enacted.
