Portland

Portland is the largest city in the state of Oregon, in the Pacific Northwest, in USA. It is located near the confluence of two rivers, Wilamette and Columbia.Portland lies on top of an extinct Plio-Pleistocene volcanic field known as the Boring Lava Field. Located in the Marine west coast region, Portland has a climate marked by warm, dry summers and wet but mild winters. This climate is ideal for growing roses, and has earned Portland the nickname of 'City of Roses'. Because of its public transportation networks and efficient land use planning, Portland has been referred to as one of the most environmentally friendly, or 'green', cities in the world. The city and region are noted for strong land-use planning and investment in light rail supported by a distinctive regional government, headed by a mayor and four other commissioners. The city is also known for its large number of microbreweries and microdistilleries, and is also the home of the Timbers MLS team and Trail Blazers NBA team.
