This card shows a yummy shoo-fly recipe, also known as Montgomery Pie. It is molasses pie, traditionally known in Southern cooking among the Pennsylvania Dutch. Most people find them very sweet, with the huge amount of molasses and brown sugar that's used. The pie gets its name, from the fact that the sweet ingredients attracts flies, which must be shooed away by the cooks. This cake is quite similar to coffee cake, with a gooey molasses bottom. This bottom can be thick or barely visible, and is best when slightly warmed with a major dab of whipped cream on top.
